ABOUT THE DOCTOR
Medical Qualifications:
Dr Elena Andreou obtained her medical degree from the Vienna University School of Medicine, Austria in 1992. Eager to pursue specialist
training in Endocrinology, Diabetes and General Medicine in centers of excellence, she continued her postgraduate medical training in the UK. Following General Medical training in the Greater London area, and successful completion of competitive examinations, she was awarded membership to the Royal College of Physicians, London, UK.
Following this, she enrolled in the specialist registrar training scheme in Endocrinology, Diabetes, Internal Medicine within the Cambridge
rotation, based at Addenbrooke’s Hospital - Cambridge University Health Partners in Cambridge, where the majority of her specialist training
was completed (under Prof. Sir Steve O’Rahilly, Prof. Krish Chatterjee and other distinguished Consultants).
During her training, Dr Andreou had the opportunity to gain considerable experience in all aspects of Endocrinology and Diabetes and treat
vast amount of patients - both as inpatients following emergency or elective admission, and as outpatients.
As a member of the Cambridge multidisciplinary team which consisted of Endocrinologists, Surgeons, Nuclear Medicine Physicians and
Oncologists during her training, she has become an expert in managing conditions including, but not limited to:
She is fully trained in Thyroid FNA (Fine Needle Aspiration of thyroid nodules).
She gained experience in the perioperative management of patients undergoing endocrine surgery (pituitary adenomas, thyroidectomies, parathyroidectomies, adrenalectomies, pancreatectomies).
After completion of her specialist training she worked for 2 years as Consultant in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Internal Medicine at
Hinchingbrooke Health Care NHS Trust, Cambridge, UK.
She returned to Cyprus late 2008, where she worked as a specialist Endocrinologist at Makarios hospital.
Since June 2012 she has been working in the private sector in Nicosia.

- Adolescent diabetes
- Patients with diabetes on insulin pumps.
- Patients with complications of diabetes - such as diabetic nephropathy, diabetic foot.
